The Little Give

You can never give too little.

Established in 2008, “The Little Give” is Edelman Canada’s annual corporate social responsibility initiative that dedicates a little bit of seed money and a whole lot of time and energy to worthy non-profit organizations working to make a difference in the lives of children and youth.

Team 4 – Second Harvest

Second Harvest is a charitable organization that takes a common-sense approach to hunger. We pick up donated, perishable food, which would otherwise go to waste, and deliver that food to over 200 social service agencies in the GTA. Last year, Second Harvest delivered almost 6 million pounds of food to feed those who are hungry in our city. Recognized for our efficiency and impact, independent research group, Charity Intelligence named Second Harvest a CI Recommended Charity in 2009.

Masked Crusaders to the Rescue!

Take 8 committed Edelman employees, 48 hours of dedication, throw in a couple of pizza boxes and burritos in the mix, and what do you get?

The Masked Crusaders Rescuing Food, one fruit at a time! (aka the green = team).

Little Give was an experience that none of us was prepared for. Adding to the fact that this was the first time that it was run in the Toronto office, everything was a complete surprise leading up to the announcement of the matching of the teams on the first day. The Green team (that’s us!) was paired with Second Harvest, a non-profit organization that rescues perishable foods and delivers it to approximately 250 social service programs in the Greater Toronto Area. We had the opportunity to meet with Gillian CS and Nancy Hall from Second Harvest for a few hours on the first day of the challenge for an overall company briefing where they left us with their ultimate ask, which was our challenge for the rest of the weekend. Team Second Harvest

Second Harvest Team

With this being my first time experiencing Edelman’s Little Give, I wasn’t sure what to expect but seeing all the passion and commitment from all the 10 teams have been absolutely amazing. This is definitely a great way to take some time away from our work and personal lives to be giving back to organizations in need from our local community. Our group, the Lean Mean & Green team has been teamed up with Second Harvest, www.secondharvest.ca, that addresses hunger & food waste! Last year alone, they saved 5.75 million pounds of food and delivered them to other organizations in need across the GTA. We couldn’t be happier to helping out with such a great organization that are making such an impact in our community.
